Governance Transition Advisory Group


In order to make the required changes to the current make-up of the Visit Isle of Wight Board, and review the other task and governance groups proposed, a Governance Transition Advisory Group has been set up. This group is working with the existing Visit Isle of Wight Board to develop and put in place the structures outlined in the WIGHT BID plan as soon as possible. This Group will meet several times this autumn to discuss and agree democratic process for Board representation, Working Task panels and amendments to the current Articles of Association.

The first meeting (as a pathfinder group) was held on Thursday 8th of September 2016.  Meetings are chaired by the Chairman of the VIOW Board, Simon Dabell (

The Transition Panel members are going to work through a range of governance issues on behalf of the BID levy payers and their recommendations will be published later this autumn. Please contact Simon Dabell if you have any particular matters you wish the panel to look at.

Elections to the Board and to the various Advisory Panels will commence once the Panel and VIOW Board have confirmed the revised governance procedures

I own and run Chale Bay Farm with my husband, Steve.  We moved to the Island and took over the luxury guest-house just over 5 years ago having decided we would escape the London corporate life to do something completely different.  My previous career was Marketing Director for a large multi-national retailer. Paul Judge (The Leconfield)
I have dedicated 46 years to the hospitality industry, predominantly  service accommodation in tourist areas [including Lake District, Yorkshire Dales and the Cotswolds]. In partnership with my wife Cheryl, we have been owner operators of The Leconfield for over 12 years. We have achieved and maintained AA/VisitEngland 5 Star gold award rating as Guest Accommodation since 2007. Stuart Dyer (Godshill Model Village)
Stuart Dyer is joint owner and director of the Model Village in Godshill.  He and his wife Penny purchased this very popular tourist attraction from the previous generation of the family in 2004.  Since that time they have nurtured and developed this successful business through difficult economic times whilst still seeing positive financial growth. Stuart grew up on the Island and attended local schools before leaving for University in 1984.  His background includes time in the RAF and a number years working with FTSE 100 companies specialising in training and development.  He returned to the Island in 2001. Belinda Walters (Brook House)
I have run three self-catering holiday properties in Brook for more than 10 years, of which one is graded 5* and the other two 4* with gold awards.  In addition, I am the Director for the Island of the Country Land and Business Association; the CLA represents those involved in all aspects of landowning and rural business, both giving advice and lobbying on Members’ behalf on a wide range of issues.   By background I am a lawyer, having worked as a Senior  Solicitor for BSkyB in London for 13 years.  I am also the Chairman of Yarmouth Harbour. Martin Bullock (Inns of Distinction)
Martin Bullock of Inns of Distinction has traded pubs on the Isle of Wight for over twenty-five years and he has worked tirelessly over this period to raise the standard of pub dining.  He has championed for many years the use of local produce, and has worked very closely with growers, producers and suppliers to raise the awareness of this great local source. His pubs have been award winning for over 15 years and his most recent commendation is for one of his pubs to again be awarded the title of “Isle of Wight Dining Pub of the Year for 2017″, this is the third year running as well as also being included in the prestigious Michelin Pub guide again.
